Carbon steel flanges and stainless steel flanges have the following differences:

Carbon steel flanges and stainless steel flanges have the following differences:

Material Composition

- Carbon steel flanges: They are mainly composed of carbon and iron, and also contain small amounts of elements such as manganese, silicon, sulfur, and phosphorus.

- Stainless steel flanges: On the basis of carbon steel, alloying elements such as chromium, nickel, and molybdenum are added. The chromium content is generally not less than 10.5%, which endows them with good corrosion resistance.

Appearance

- Carbon steel flanges: The surface is usually silver-gray, with a relatively dull luster. They are prone to rusting, and after rusting, reddish-brown rust spots will appear on the surface.

- Stainless steel flanges: The surface is bright silver, with a shiny luster. Even after long-term use, they are not easy to rust in general environments and can maintain a good appearance.

Performance Characteristics

- Carbon steel flanges: They have high strength and hardness and can withstand large pressure and impact forces. However, their corrosion resistance is poor, and they are likely to rust and corrode in humid environments or in the presence of corrosive media.

- Stainless steel flanges: In addition to having a certain degree of strength and toughness, their outstanding feature is their excellent corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance. They can be used for a long time in a variety of harsh environments without being corroded.

Application Scenarios

- Carbon steel flanges: They are commonly used in scenarios where the requirement for corrosion resistance is not high, such as in general industrial pipelines, water supply and drainage pipelines, and low-temperature and low-pressure steam pipelines.

- Stainless steel flanges: They are widely used in fields with high requirements for corrosion resistance, such as the chemical industry, petroleum industry, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, and marine engineering, as well as in pipeline systems with high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive media.

Price

- Carbon steel flanges: Due to their relatively low material cost and relatively simple production process, their prices are relatively cheap.

- Stainless steel flanges: Due to the addition of alloying elements and the higher requirements for the production process, their costs and prices are usually much higher than those of carbon steel flanges.
