Brief Introduction to S235JR Steel
S235JR is a non-alloy low-carbon structural steel defined by the European standard (EN 10025-2). In its grade: "S" stands for structural steel, "235" refers to a minimum yield strength of 235 MPa, "J" represents impact resistance testing at 20°C (room temperature), and "R" indicates the delivery condition as rolled. It is a fundamental material in overseas industries.
Its yield strength is ≥235 MPa (≥215 MPa for thickness >40mm) and tensile strength ranges from 360 to 510 MPa. With carbon content ≤0.17% and phosphorus/sulfur content ≤0.045% each, it features excellent weldability and cold workability, requiring no additional heat treatment.
Common delivery forms include plates and sections. It is suitable for structural steel in construction, mechanical bases, and low-pressure pipelines, but not for strong corrosion environments or temperatures below -10°C. When purchasing, verify the Material Test Certificate (MTC). It is similar to ASTM A36 (American standard) and Q235B (Chinese standard) but not identical.
